A severe storm with heavy rain hit the region north of Kassel overnight into Friday. According to the police headquarters in Hofgeismar, there were dozens of deployments, but no injuries were reported.

Streets were flooded, basements filled up and had to be pumped out. In Trendelburg-Gottsbüren, mud pushed cars together. Two people had to be rescued from vehicles trapped by water, according to the police. Roads had to be closed, including the B80 and B83. A reservoir in Hofgeismar-Hombressen was causing concern in the morning as it threatened to overflow.

According to media reports, water reached up to two meters high in some streets. People were trapped in their homes and had to be rescued by boat. In the morning, the police and fire department referred to the county, but no one was initially reachable there.

The police confirmed the rescue of two individuals from vehicles trapped by the floodwater. Due to the severe conditions, several roads, including the B80 and B83, were closed by the police.
