- Storm at Chiemsee - Several water sports enthusiasts in distress

A sudden storm brought several water sports enthusiasts into distress on Lake Chiemsee. As reported by the police, those affected had underestimated the danger of the approaching thunderstorm.

On Wednesday afternoon, a sailing dinghy with two people on board capsized in the area of the Feldwieser Bay. The crew was rescued from the water after about 30 minutes by the Water Rescue Service Bernau. Both men were reportedly hypothermic and were taken to a hospital for further examination.

At the same time, the Water Police Prien noticed two stand-up paddle boarders who were drifting eastwards between Herreninsel and Bernau and had apparently lost control of their boards. They were also brought to shore by the rescue forces. They remained uninjured.

Despite the calm weather earlier in the day, a powerful [Hurricane] swept across the region overnight, causing significant damage. The strong winds and high waves were responsible for the capsized dinghy and the challenging conditions for the stand-up paddle boarders.
