- Storm and heavy rain: Camp flooded in Alsfeld

Heavy storms and torrential rain forced the evacuation of a campsite at an equestrian event in Alsfeld (Vogelsberg district). Around 300 people were evacuated from a flooded festival field where they had been camping, with approximately 100 horses housed in three tents.

According to the fire department, around 260 young people were accommodated in a sports hall for the night, and several families were placed in hotels. The fire department worked through the night, pumping water from the campsite into the nearby Schwalm river.

No one was injured, and the horses, which had been standing in water up to 25 centimeters deep, remained unharmed.

Despite the evacuation, horse racing events scheduled for the weekend at the equestrian event were unfortunately canceled due to the weather conditions. After being safely relocated, the evacuated individuals expressed their disappointment about missing the exciting horse racing competitions.
