Municipalities - Stendal district deals with 49-euro ticket again

The struggle for the continuation of the 49-euro ticket in the district of Stendal is entering the next round. After the state announced a further ten million euros in additional costs for the districts, the district council is to discuss the continuation of the ticket again on December 20, as the district announced on Friday. It remains to be seen how the district council will decide under the new conditions.

Last week, the district council did not approve a resolution to recognize the Deutschlandticket in the district. As a result, the ticket would no longer be valid on buses there from January 1. This caused a nationwide stir, with the passenger association Pro Bahn warning of the "death of the Deutschlandticket". The background to this was additional costs of 40,000 euros until April. The ticket costs 49 euros per month and entitles the holder to use local and regional buses and trains throughout Germany.

Stendal's district administrator Patrick Puhlmann (SPD) said that the state had taken a big step towards the municipalities. "My personal opinion is that we should now take the small step and extend the Deutschlandticket until 30.04.2024." He himself voted in favor of an extension last week and will do so again on 20 December.
