Stellantis initiates a recall of over 1.2 million Ram vehicles due to an issue with the brake system software.
The automobiles being pulled back involve selected 2019, 2021-2024 Ram 1500 trucks, as the NHTSA announced in a statement on Saturday.
According to Stellantis, an examination of customer feedback uncovered potential issues with the 2019 and 2021-2024 Ram 1500 trucks, which might have been installed with ABS module software that could inadvertently deactivate the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.
Stellantis explained that should the ESC system deactivate, it won't affect the primary braking functionality. Additionally, the ABS, ESC, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Forward Collision Warning warning lights will activate when the vehicle is started, to illustrate that these systems are temporarily unavailable.
The dealerships will provide a complimentary software update for the ABS system.
Stellantis reported no knowledge of any related incidents or accidents.
The recall follows a preceding recall in June affecting approximately 158,000 Ram 2500 pickups.
Regarding a different matter, the NHTSA also announced that Stellantis is recalling specific 2020-2024 Jeep Gladiator and 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles due to an instrument panel cluster that might undergo an internal short circuit and malfunction.
The issue with the Ram 1500 trucks' ABS module software could potentially impact the business operations of Stellantis due to the necessary software update and recall.
Stellantis is urging its business partners to prepare for the upcoming software update and recall processes for the affected Ram 1500 and Jeep models.
