Steinmeier urges people to take part in European elections on June 9 during his visit with Macron.

In 2023, Europe's democracy has gained significant importance, according to the Federal President. People like the Germans and French understand that freedom, peace, and democracy don't magically appear; they need to be fought for and protected. History has shown that if there's a lack of democratic systems, human dignity and political rationale suffer.

A robust European Union is essential for defending our freedom and democracy in this increasingly uncertain world. Not surprisingly, those who undermine freedom, democracy, and human rights are also the ones who challenge the European project. That's why the President added a call to action to every citizen, asking them to participate in the European elections on June 9th.

On May 2nd, Macron’s three-day state visit to Germany commenced with a morning arrival. This is the first time in 24 years that a French president has made an official state visit to Germany.

For the opening event, Steinmeier and Macron attended a democracy celebration in Berlin, marking the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law. On Monday in Dresden, Macron plans to deliver a speech to the European youth. Notably, far-right parties from both France and Germany are predicted to perform well in these upcoming European elections.

During his state visit to Germany, Steinmeier urged people to participate in the European elections on June 9, emphasizing the importance of democracy in Europe. Germany and France, as major European countries, are crucial in protecting freedom, peace, and democracy within the continent. The call for participation comes at a time when democracy has gained significant importance, as seen in 2023.

As a direct appeal to citizens, both President Steinmeier and Emmanuel Macron are advocating for active participation in the European elections, recognizing that democratic systems must be fought for and maintained. This stand against democratic regression is vital against those who challenge the European project and infringe upon human rights and freedom.

France's state visit with Germany, led by President Macron, marks a significant milestone, making it the first in 24 years. This visit coincides with a critical period for European democracy, with the upcoming elections set to determine the future of the European Union and its adherence to democratic values.

The current political landscape of the European elections anticipates strong performances by far-right parties, representing a threat to the cohesion and unity within the European project. These parties' agendas often contradict the principles of freedom, democracy, and human rights.

In an attempt to foster democratic engagement among the youth, President Macron is set to deliver a speech on Monday in Dresden during his state visit to Germany. Nonetheless, the June 9 European elections will undoubtedly bring forth discussions and decisions that will significantly impact the future of democracy and Europe.

In light of this, it is imperative that democratic-minded citizens understand their role in maintaining a healthy and robust European democracy. The June 9 European elections will indeed play a pivotal role in preserving Europe's freedom, peace, and democracy against those who wish to undermine them.

By actively participating in the European elections, citizens from Germany and France, as well as the broader European community, can make a lasting impact on the state of democracy in Europe, ultimately safeguarding human dignity and political rationale for generations to come.
