Over the past couple of weeks, there have been attacks against mayors, ministers, lawmakers, and volunteers, as mentioned by Steinmeier. He stated that the people of this country should never get accustomed to violence during political disagreements. The violence should come to an end.

Prior to this, Steinmeier paid his respects to the police officer who was killed a week ago on the market square in Mannheim. He laid a wreath of flowers in commemoration of the officer's life.

The day before, a 25-year-old Afghan wounded five members of the anti-Islam group Pax Europa and a 29-year-old civil servant with a knife on the market square. Laur unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
