On June 9, 2004, two right-wing extremists, Uwe Böhnhardt and Uwe Mundlos, detonated a nail bomb in Köln Keupstraße. This explosion left 22 people injured, with four of them sustaining severe injuries. This event is connected to the right-wing-inspired crime spree of the National Socialist Underground (NSU), which includes ten murder cases and two bomb attacks. The bodies of Böhnhardt and Mundlos were discovered in 2011, they're suspected of committing suicide during a failed bank robbery to evade arrest. The third member of the NSU, Beate Zschäpe, remains in custody.
