The 29-year-old police officer underwent treatment after the onslaught and was placed into a synthetic coma. He expired late on Sunday afternoon. His demise induced countrywide shock.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office is examining the presumed culprit. They believe this attack targeted freedom of expression. The supposed perp relocated to Germany in 2014. According to media reports, his asylum application was dismissed when he arrived. However, he later got a short-term residence permit.
The Baden-Württemberg police asked citizens to observe a statewide moment of silence for the fallen officer on Friday. Police offices in various states also supported the notion. Officers amassed outside their workplaces to show their camaraderie. The Baden-Württemberg state administration also implored employees of ministries and the legislature to take part in the moment of silence.
