Parties - Stegner: The quality of the successor is crucial
Former SPD parliamentary group and party leader in Schleswig-Holstein, Ralf Stegner, believes that the successor to Thomas Losse-Müller at the head of the state parliamentary group is not about speed. "The crucial question is not how quickly it is decided now, but how well," the SPD politician told the German Press Agency.
On the one hand, the intellectual and conceptual strength that Losse-Müller had brought to the table, also as an alternative to the Prime Minister, had to be built on. At the same time, it must be possible to find an emotional social democratic orientation in the new beginning "that allows us to emerge from this deep valley we are in". He hoped that the repositioning would take place in solidarity between the state party and the state parliamentary group.
Stegner praised Losse-Müller for his work. He had had a very difficult time with a very small state parliamentary group against a government with a two-thirds majority. "We knew beforehand that he wasn't the opposition fighter." But that alone does not make opposition. From Stegner's point of view, the sharpness of the debate was not Losse-Müller's main area. "But he wasn't alone either."
