Steel Literature Prize for author from East Berlin
Berlin author Jochen Schmidt has been awarded the Eisenhüttenstadt Steel Foundation's literature prize. The writer, who was born in East Berlin in 1970 and still lives there, is considered a master of autobiographical storytelling, as the spokesman for ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt announced on Tuesday. According to the steel foundation, the prize is endowed with 10,000 euros and has been awarded since 2005. Previous winners have included Juli Zeh, Wladimir Kaminer and Volker Kutscher. This year's prize will be awarded on November 16 (7 p.m.) at the IPS Technology Center in Eisenhüttenstadt, according to the statement.
Jochen Schmidt's win in the Eisenhüttenstadt Steel Foundation's literature prize adds another prestigious award to his notable literary career. The autobiographical masterpieces of Schmidt have been recognized and appreciated in the literary circle, earning him several accolades.
