In Saxony-Anhalt, adoption numbers have generally remained steady for the past decade. The state saw an average of 97 adoptions annually, dipping slightly to 93 in 2023, as stated by the Halle-based State Statistical Office.
Approximately 60% of the adoptees were taken in by non-blood relatives, while 40% were adopted by step-parents. A majority of the adoptions involved female and male children under the age of three, with 67% falling into this category in 2023.
Statistical analysis revealed that 50 children were currently in need of adoption in 2023, a significant increase from the previous year's 20. Contrary to this, the number of registered adoption applications showed a decline—there were 66 applications, marking a 22% decrease from 2022.
Despite the decrease in adoption application numbers, the state continued to prioritize [adoption] efforts, aiming to find loving homes for the 50 children still in need.
