- Statistics: More passengers at German airports
At German airports, there was significantly more activity in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year. 90.8 million passengers took off and landed at major airports, according to the Federal Statistical Office. This was an increase of 10.5 percent compared to the first half of 2023, but still 14.6 percent less than in 2019 before the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.
With ticket prices down by 3.1 percent, Spain was once again the most popular destination for international travel in June, with 2.9 million passengers. Turkey came in second with 2.0 million passengers, followed by Italy with 1.3 million. Italy saw the strongest growth compared to 2023, with an increase of 11.9 percent.
Compared to the pre-Covid period, Turkey saw a significant increase of 20 percent, which may be due to a stronger connecting flight offering by Turkish Airlines. After Spain and Italy, there were fewer passengers compared to June 2019.
