Traffic - Statistics: Fewer accidents involving cyclists

The number of bicycle accidents in North Rhine-Westphalia has decreased slightly, according to statistics. After a strong increase in 2022, the number of injured cyclists went back down by seven percent in the previous year, as the Statistical Office announced.

Approximately 20,500 people had bicycle accidents. Around 3,000 of them were seriously injured, 75 died in bicycle accidents. Nearly one third of the bicycle accidents involved people riding Pedelecs, which are bicycles with electric motors.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, specifically in Düsseldorf, traffic safety for bicycles remains a concern despite the decrease in bicycle accidents. This decrease was evident in the statistics released by the Statistical Office, showing a decrease of seven percent in 2023 compared to 2022. Despite the decrease, Düsseldorf still recorded a significant number of bicycle accidents.
