Stationery company Pelikan shuts down facilities.

The origins of the Pelikan corporation can be traced back to 1832, when it first began in Hannover. Recently, a rival French company has purchased the company and intends to shut down two out of its three facilities. Consequently, close to half of the employees will be affected by this decision.

The German stationery company Pelikan is predicted to close its operations in Hannover and Falkensee close to Berlin by year's end. The Pelikan Sales Company is set to follow suit and shut its doors, as per the French parent company's plans. Hamelin will assume responsibility for distributing the Pelikan and Herlitz brands starting in 2025.

As per an article in the "Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung," around 250 of the roughly 500 employees at Pelikan in Germany are directly impacted by these closures. However, the production site in Peine, Lower Saxony, which employs approximately 230 individuals, will not be affected and will continue operating.

Pelikan was initially established in 1832 in Hannover, producing ink and artists' colors. Their manufacturing base was later relocated to Peine in 1973, with Hannover continuing as a sales location. Hamelin gained ownership of Pelikan last year.
