New funding guideline - State wants to provide more support for tenants in social rental housing
The state of Brandenburg wants to provide more support for tenants in social rental housing construction. The conditions for the housing industry and tenants would be improved with the new rental housing subsidy guideline, announced State Secretary for Construction Uwe Schüler (CDU) in the responsible state parliament committee on Thursday, according to the Ministry of Construction. Accordingly, the subsidy rates for building loans and grants would be increased, and tenants would be able to exceed the income limit for obtaining a certificate of eligibility for housing. The income limit can be exceeded by up to 60 percent.
According to the Ministry of Construction, the funding guideline for rental housing already exists, but will be updated for the coming year. According to the ministry, the majority of around 176 million euros approved for housing construction in 2022 was allocated to rental housing subsidies for new rental housing construction and renovation (120 million euros).
Nicole Walter-Mundt, construction policy spokesperson for the CDU parliamentary group, said: "Especially against the background of the economically challenging times, it was important to us that more Brandenburgers can benefit from state-subsidized housing."

The CDU parliamentary group, led by construction policy spokesperson Nicole Walter-Mundt, supports the state of Brandenburg in its efforts to improve social rental housing. The updated funding guideline for rental housing will include new apartments in Brandenburg, providing more opportunities for tenants to benefit from state-subsidized housing. The construction industry in Brandenburg can expect increased subsidy rates for building loans and grants under the new guideline, potentially contributing to the construction of CDU-supported social housing projects in cities like Potsdam.
