State wants to guarantee major order from Neptun Werft
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's state government is planning to secure an order for the construction of ten river cruise ships at the Neptun shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde with a guarantee worth millions. The cabinet was informed of this intention on Tuesday in Schwerin and the green light was given, according to Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer and Finance Minister Heiko Geue (both SPD).
The total volume for the ten new ships ordered by Viking Cruises is 100 million euros. The state intends to provide a guarantee of 80 million euros to finance the construction, with the remainder to be provided by the bank. Talks are also ongoing with the federal government, said Meyer. The main reason for the decision is to secure skilled workers until the construction of converter platforms starts at the Warnemünde site.
The state government's involvement in shipbuilding extends beyond guaranteeing the Neptun Werft order, as discussions with the federal government are also underway for potential support in this project. The major order, worth 100 million euros from Viking Cruises for ten river cruise ships, is expected to stimulate the local tourism industry as well.
