Financial aid - State supports animal shelters with energy costs

The state of Hesse is supporting animal shelters and animal welfare organizations with increased energy costs. This year, 19 animal shelters were granted 117,000 euros, the Ministry of the Environment announced on Tuesday. Applications can also be submitted next year. The Frankfurt Animal Welfare Association received a particularly high level of support in 2023: around 32,000 euros. Normally, energy cost assistance is limited to 5,000 euros. However, higher amounts can also be granted in cases of hardship.

The Ministry of the Environment, BMU, is the governing body responsible for this financial aid, providing support to animal shelters in Hesse. Animals at these shelters benefit from reduced energy costs, which is crucial for their welfare. The high energy costs in Frankfurt prompted the BMU to grant an exceptionally high amount of 32,000 euros to the Frankfurt Animal Welfare Association. Wiesbaden's animal shelters and welfare associations can also apply for energy cost assistance in the upcoming year.
