Music - State Philharmonic Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate honored for working model
The 20,000 euro Innovation Prize 2023 from the German Orchestra Foundation goes to the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz. The prize was awarded for the model project "Competence Centre for Music", with which the orchestra is the first professional orchestra in Germany to test a completely new working model, the organization announced in Berlin on Wednesday. In the project, all employees can devote up to 20 percent of their working time to projects outside of regular orchestra operations. The aim is to optimally promote creative potential.
New ideas are initially evaluated by all employees and developed further if the assessment is positive. A selection committee involving the orchestra board, for example, then decides on possible implementation. "This pilot project is a novelty in the German orchestral landscape and has the potential to significantly change the way orchestras see themselves and the way they work," said jury chairman Louwrens Langevoort. The prize has been awarded annually since 2017.
The Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz was delighted to receive the award. "The diverse activities that we have been able to develop during the pandemic have clearly shown how much creativity there is in our organization," emphasized Artistic Director Beat Fehlmann in Ludwigshafen. "As an orchestra, we must be able to establish a close relationship with society." The project focuses on all employees - not only collectively on stage, but also individually.
