State parliament wants to resolve budget emergency in SH
On Thursday in Kiel, the state parliament will discuss a budget emergency for Schleswig-Holstein for 2023. This will allow funds for hospital financing or school construction, for example, to flow from emergency loans as planned even after the Federal Constitutional Court's budget ruling. In addition to the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, the coalition is also citing the effects of the war in Ukraine and the severe storm surge in the Baltic Sea in October, which caused severe damage in some areas.
Even before the budget discussions for the coming year, which are planned for December, parliament wants to establish a budget emergency for 2024. Parliament will also discuss the planned special fund for repairing the damage caused by the storm surge. The state and local authorities each want to shoulder an equal share of the damage, initially estimated at 200 million euros, but are relying on help from the federal government.
The state parliament is considering allocating emergency funds from 2023 for crucial sectors like healthcare and education, given the budget crisis in Schleswig-Holstein. Furthermore, discussions about the household budget for 2024 are scheduled before the annual budget planning, highlighting the pressing financial concerns.
