National policy - State parliament modernizes penal system: law passed
Saxony is modernizing its penal system. On Wednesday, the state parliament passed the government's corresponding bill. "We are ensuring that the prison system can cope well with the challenges of our time and that the focus remains on the resocialization of prisoners," explained Green Party MP Lucie Hammecke. Among other things, the law includes strengthening the open prison system. The needs of pregnant women in prison are to be given greater consideration, and childbirth is to take place outside the prison. The law also creates a legal basis for so-called video visits.
