Commemoration - State parliament meets to commemorate Israel

The President of the Hessian State Parliament, Astrid Wallmann (CDU), is hosting a memorial service on Tuesday (14:00) to mark the Islamist terror against Israel. Israeli Consul General Talya Lador-Fresher is also expected to give a speech. The plenary debate is scheduled to begin after the commemoration (3.00 pm). The main topic will be the final report of the committee of inquiry into the racist attack in Hanau almost three years ago.

The parliamentary committee dealt with the question of whether there were failures on the part of the authorities before, during and after the attack. Within just five minutes on February 19, 2020, the German perpetrator shot nine young people for racist reasons. He then killed his mother and himself.

The committee discussed possible lessons that have already been learned from the handling of the attack or that can still be implemented. The committee was not entirely unanimous. All current opposition groups - SPD, FDP, Linke and AfD - therefore formulated special votes for the final report.
