State parliament meets for the last time before the Christmas break

In terms of content, virtually nothing will happen in the last parliamentary session before Christmas. However, it will not necessarily be peaceful.

Parties - State parliament meets for the last time before the Christmas break

The Bavarian state parliament will convene for its last plenary session before the Christmas break on Tuesday (2 p.m.). The AfD wants to make another - probably again unsuccessful - attempt to have its MP Matthias Vogler elected Vice-President of the state parliament. Vogler had already failed once at the beginning of the legislative period. He even received fewer votes than the number of AfD MPs present at the session.

In the previous legislative period, the AfD candidates at the time had also always failed to achieve the necessary majority. The AfD is also being monitored by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in the Free State of Bavaria.

Nevertheless, the AfD will be allowed to speak for the first time on Tuesday at the traditional closing speeches, alongside State Parliament President Ilse Aigner (CSU) and the state government. The AfD parliamentary group has this right because the party came third behind the CSU and the Free Voters in the state parliament elections on October 8, making it the first opposition party.

The AfD, having finished third in the state parliament elections in Munich, Bavaria, will be given the opportunity to speak during the traditional closing speeches at the plenary session, which marks the last meeting before the Christmas break. Despite their consistent failures in previous legislative periods, Matthias Vogler from the AfD will once again attempt to be elected as Vice-President of the state parliament in this session, a position he failed to secure at the beginning of the current term. This plenary session will take place in the Bavarian state parliament building in Munich.
