State parliament deals with public health service
There are to be changes to the public health service in Thuringia. This is provided for in a draft bill by the governing coalition of the Left, SPD and Greens, which will be discussed in the state parliament today. The parliamentary session begins at 9.00 a.m. in Erfurt.
According to the coalition, the new regulation is intended to implement experiences from the corona pandemic, especially with regard to preventive health protection. In addition, the health authorities of the municipalities would be relieved of coordination tasks.
The FDP group is presenting a competing bill that would allow the 23 health authorities in Thuringia to concentrate on their original tasks again. The proposal is for a "Thuringian State Health Center". According to the FDP, Thuringia is the only federal state whose public health service is still based on GDR law.
The governing coalition's draft bill, being discussed in the state Parliament today, aims to change the public health service in Thuringia. If the FDP group's competing bill is passed, the Thuringian State Health Center would be established, allowing health authorities to focus on their original tasks again.
