Fight against cybercrime - State Office of Criminal Investigation expands competence center against cybercrime

The State Criminal Office of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is expanding the department "Digitales Service- und Kompetenzzentrum (DiSK)" to effectively combat cybercrime. According to the Interior Ministry in Schwerin, this will increase responsiveness in the field of cybercrime. The multi-year project phase of the competence center has shown that having a unified point of contact, in particular for digital support in investigative and operational matters for criminal police agencies in the state, but also towards Internet services such as Google or WhatsApp, is valuable.

"Cybercrime is increasingly gaining importance in criminal police work. Securing digital traces as evidence and dealing with the challenges of digitalization in general require a future-oriented bundling of all available resources," explained Interior Minister Christian Pegel (SPD).

  1. This expansion of the Digitales Service- und Kompetenzzentrum (DiSK) in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania aims to address the rising issue of cybercrime in Germany.
  2. The Police in Schwerin, specifically the LKA (Länderkriminalamt), will benefit significantly from this enhancement, as they confront various forms of cybercrime via the Internet.
  3. In coordination with international entities like Google and WhatsApp, the LKA is leveraging DiSK's resources to effectively combat cybercrime across different digital platforms.
  4. The state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, with its proactive approach to cybercrime, serves as a role model for other German regions interested in enhancing their digital security and law enforcement efforts.
