State Office for the Environment warns of slight flooding on the Danube
The Bavarian State Office for the Environment warns of flooding on the Danube. Near Kelheim in Lower Bavaria, the peak of the flood has exceeded reporting level 3, the flood information service of the state office announced on Tuesday. Reporting level 3 means that individual built-up properties or cellars are flooded, supra-local traffic routes are closed or isolated deployments of the water or dam weir are necessary.
The water level near Vilshofen (Passau district) has reached reporting level 2. This means that agricultural and forestry areas could be flooded or there could be slight traffic obstructions on main roads and local roads.
The State Office for the Environment expects the flood situation to ease from Wednesday. However, the German Weather Service is still expecting precipitation on the edge of the Alps and in the congested areas of the Alps over the course of Tuesday. The snow line will drop from the current 1500 meters to around 1000 meters.
The severe weather conditions are causing issues in Lower Bavaria, with the storm leading to floods that have surpassed reporting level 3 near Kelheim. Due to the storm and anticipated rainfall, the German Weather Service cautions of potential further flooding in the area.
