State hopes for more money from the federal government for asylum policy

The state government of Schleswig-Holstein would have liked more money from the federal government to finance the migration resolutions. The federal government does not want to contribute to the funding, said Deputy Prime Minister Monika Heinold (Greens) in a government statement in the state parliament on Wednesday. She was standing in for Minister President Daniel Günther (CDU), who was ill.

According to the new resolutions, funding from the federal government will be based on the number of asylum seekers in the state - the agreed lump sum will amount to 7500 euros per applicant.

As already stated by Minister President Günther, the state government supports the results of the federal-state consultations on limiting migration on November 6. According to Heinold, people in the state can now expect the resolutions to be implemented quickly.

In addition, it is imperative for better and faster integration that those seeking protection are given the opportunity to take up employment quickly. This would also enable them to earn their own living. Heinold expects these facilitations to be enacted into federal law soon.

The state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein discussed the need for additional funding from the federal government for handling refugee situations, as the funding will be tied to the number of asylum seekers in the state. The Deputy Prime Minister Monika Heinold expressed disappointment that the federal government is not willing to provide more financial support for this matter.
