State government approaches CDU in budget dispute
In the struggle over the Thuringian budget, the state government is taking a major step towards the opposition CDU. Under certain circumstances, it could decide not to take legal action against the reduction in land transfer tax pushed through by the CDU, as Minister President Bodo Ramelow (Left Party) said in Erfurt on Tuesday. The CDU had recently made this a precondition for further talks.
The budget plans are also to be adjusted so that 700 million euros remain in the state's reserves at the end of 2024. To this end, the state's special coronavirus fund is also to be dissolved and transferred to the budget. The repayment of coronavirus loans is also to be extended from eight to 15 years in order to have money for some CDU projects.
The state budget for 2024, with record spending of 13.8 billion euros, has been in the state parliament for weeks. The red-red-green governing coalition is dependent on a compromise with the opposition because it lacks the majority to pass its own budget resolution. In previous years, this was the CDU.
