State equips fire departments with new app for operations

The fire departments in Saxony-Anhalt are to be equipped with a new app for operations in future. This was announced by the State Chancellery on Tuesday after the cabinet meeting. The app will quickly provide the emergency services with important information that they need to assess and manage emergency situations.

For example, the app contains a database of all cars registered in Germany with information on the type of drive, danger zones and possible rescue access points. In addition, the app can use a camera to recognize the hazardous goods sign and display the relevant substance information during operations involving the transport of hazardous goods. In addition to a digital map, the app also includes a module that can be used to connect breathing apparatus, which can then be monitored during operations.

"The state will not only provide the fire department app, but also the necessary tablets free of charge," explained Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU). The state will bear the costs of around 210,000 euros for the firefighting app and the connection to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, as well as a further 1.6 million euros for the tablets and operational cases.

The new app, beneficial for fire department operations, will also provide crucial data during government-declared emergencies. This collaboration between the Parliament and the Government ensures that Saxony-Anhalt's emergency services are equipped with the necessary tools for effective response.
