State election committee: 15 parties may run in state elections in Thuringia

In total, 17 parties have submitted corresponding state lists. For the state election, besides the currently represented parties in the state parliament, the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), which has ratings around 20 percent in surveys, and the conservative values union of the former president of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Hans-Georg Maaßen, have been approved.

In Thuringia, a new state parliament is being elected simultaneously with Saxony on September 1. In surveys, the AfD has been leading for months. However, the party has significantly lost approval in recent surveys. The CDU is currently in second place, followed by the BSW and the Left, led by Minister President Bodo Ramelow. The Left, SPD, and Greens currently govern in Thuringia as a minority coalition without parliamentary majority.

  1. The State election committee in Thuringia has approved the state lists of 17 different parties, including the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW).
  2. Holger Poppenhäger, a representative of the BSW, will be part of the State election committee in Thuringia, alongside representatives from other parties.
  3. In the upcoming State election in Thuringia, besides the currently represented parties in the state parliament, the BSW and the conservative values union led by Hans-Georg Maaßen have been added to the National list.
  4. According to surveys, the BSW has ratings around 20 percent in Thuringia, making it a significant contender in the State election alongside parties like the Left and the CDU.
  5. The State election committee in Thuringia has also approved the participation of various parties on the State election list, including the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance.
