State Court of Audit takes on the Senate's policy

The State Court of Audit has once again taken a critical look at the financial situation and budgetary policy in Berlin. The result is the 256-page Annual Report 2023, which will be handed over to the President of the House of Representatives, Cornelia Seibeld, and the Senate on Thursday. Afterwards (11.00 a.m.), Court of Audit President Karin Klingen will present the most important results at a press conference in the House of Representatives.

Klingen will discuss a number of examples of decisions that the Court of Audit considers worthy of criticism. These include the question of economic efficiency. The Court of Audit also looked at the plans for the special fund for climate protection, initially amounting to five billion euros. The black-red Senate wants to use this to finance measures to help make Berlin climate-neutral. Klingen has already expressed criticism of this in light of the recent ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court on the federal budget.

The Annual Report 2023 from the State Court of Audit highlights potential issues with the Senate's management of the Household budget. The Senate's plans for utilizing the special climate protection fund, worth five billion euros, might be impacted by the Federal Constitutional Court's recent ruling on taxes and finances.
