Climate protection - State administration to be largely climate-neutral by 2040
Saxony's State Administration aims to operate largely climate-neutrally by 2040. This is the main goal of a new Masterplan, which the Saxon cabinet has decided on, as the Environment Ministry announced.
Part of the plan is to make buildings and properties of the state climate-neutral in heating, cooling, and electricity supply by 2040, and to halve the emissions of the state vehicle parks compared to 2019 in an intermediate step by 2030. A greenhouse gas balance should also be drawn up.
Minister: Masterplan provides long-term framework
Saxony needs resolute action for consistent climate protection in all areas, which includes a plan and targeted measures for the state administration, stated Environment Minister Wolfram Günther (Greens) in a statement.
"With its buildings, vehicles, and procurement, it will engage itself significantly. The Masterplan creates for the first time an overarching, cross-departmental, and long-term framework for this," said the Minister.
By the end of 2025, the departments of the state administration and the Chancellery are to transparently present how the Masterplan's goals are to be achieved in their respective business areas. To anchor the climate protection more firmly, to continue the exchange between the departments, and to coordinate and implement the measures, a person is to be appointed in each department.
