Justice - Start of trial: Ten kilograms of jewelry stolen
Four men have to answer for a large-scale jewelry heist at the Frankfurt District Court since Monday. The accused are suspected of having made off with loot worth half a million Euros in November of the previous year. To gain entry, they allegedly created a wall breach in a jewelry store in the Frankfurt Bahnhofsviertel using a drilling hammer, chisel, and crowbar.
Three of the men confessed their involvement at the start of the trial on Monday and expressed remorse through their lawyers. The fourth accused, who is said to have provided the lookout, denied the charges brought by the prosecution.
The prosecution stated during the indictment reading that the men had planned the crime in great detail. The hole in the wall was created in hours of labor and located in such a way that it was not visible through the shop window. One of the men allegedly crawled through the hole and managed to take a total of ten kilograms of jewelry from the store.
Civil investigators managed to apprehend the men, aged between 35 and 51, over the same weekend. Three of the men have been in pretrial detention since then, while the fourth was temporarily released on bail.
According to police reports, a suspicious vehicle with suspicious individuals had been observed earlier. Surveillance footage confirmed the suspicion. The suspects were stopped in two cars, in which investigators discovered suspected burglary tools and numerous jewelry pieces. In an apartment, potential burglary equipment was secured.
