- Start of trial: stabbing of Ukrainian basketball players
At the Essen Regional Court, the trial begins on Monday (13:00) regarding the fatal stabbing of two young Ukrainian basketball players. Four juveniles are accused. They allegedly attacked the 17 and 18-year-old athletes on February 10 at Oberhausen Central Station. Both victims died from their severe injuries. The suspects are said to have asked the basketball players if they were from Ukraine. When the basketball players confirmed this, the incident occurred shortly thereafter.
The trial against the 14 to 16-year-old German and Syrian defendants will take place entirely behind closed doors. The charge is murder.
The trial for the incident is being held at the accused's appearance in the Court of First Instance. The two basketball players' attackers will face their justice in this court.
