Start for Christmas markets in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Four weeks before Christmas, many cities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are getting in the mood for the Advent season with colorful Christmas markets. The largest will open on Monday in Rostock, where numerous stalls, stages and fairground rides have been set up along a three-kilometre stretch in the city center.
The Christmas markets in Schwerin and Wismar also start on Monday. In Stralsund, Lord Mayor Alexander Badrow will open the pre-Christmas fun and, according to the city, the "oldest Christmas market around the Baltic Sea" at 5.00 pm by switching on the festive lights. In Neubrandenburg, the Christmas weaving bell market opens on Tuesday, followed by the Hanseatic city of Greifswald with its market on Thursday.
During their leisure time, many locals and tourists enjoy visiting the fixed dates of the Christmas markets in Neubrandenburg and Greifswald. During these festive periods, customs such as drinking mulled wine and purchasing unique handicrafts become a beloved tradition.
