Starmer at EPG summit: Renewing bonds of trust and friendship
Starmer invited the heads of state and government from up to 47 European countries to the fourth EPG summit meeting at the Blenheim Palace north of Oxford on Thursday. The EPG comprises the 27 EU countries as well as 20 third countries from Albania to Ukraine. For Germany, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has traveled to England.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who had proposed the founding of the community following the Russian attack on Ukraine about two years ago, was also expected. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was present as well.
Starmer's Labour Party had gained the parliamentary majority for the first time since 14 years in the early July parliamentary elections, while the previously ruling conservative Tories suffered a historic defeat.
At the Blenheim Palace in Southern England, Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted the EPG-Summit, inviting leaders from 47 European countries. This included the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, and French President Emmanuel Macron, who proposed the European community after the Russian attack on Ukraine. The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was also in attendance, symbolizing the strength of friendship and trust between the nations. The summit held significant importance as it marked Starmer's Labour Party's first parliamentary majority since 14 years, achieved during the July elections.
