After water damage - Stage hopes for smooth operation
After a water damage incident in the Berlin Schaubuehne's rooms, the theater hopes for minimal impact on the upcoming performance schedule. "A major damage has occurred, and we still can't assess yet what it means for us," said business manager Tobias Veit in a statement.
Performance schedule as planned in September
"Naturally, we hope that it has no significant impact on the ongoing construction work and we can start the performance schedule as planned in September." However, there is currently not enough information to make a realistic assessment. During the performance break, there are ongoing renovation measures in the main building of the theater.
The Schaubuehne assumes that the basement levels one and two are affected. The cause was a defect in a backflow valve, resulting in rainwater from the sewage system being pushed back into the house. According to the fire department, the water covered an area of 600 square meters.
Despite the water damage incident affecting the Berlin Schaubuehne's basement levels, the management is hoping for favourable weather conditions during the game operation to expedite the drying process. Tobias Veit, the business manager, highlighted the importance of the upcoming theater performances, expressing concerns about potential emergency situations arising from the incident.
