Stadler also fails election as committee head
For the time being, the AfD will not have a committee chair in the state parliament in Munich. After Martin Böhm in the European Committee, the AfD candidate in the Agriculture Committee, Ralf Stadler, also failed by a clear margin on Tuesday. Stadler only received 3 out of 18 votes.
Traditionally, each parliamentary group is entitled to chair one or more of the state parliament committees, depending on the election results. The distribution took place last week. Here, the AfD chose to access the chair positions in the Agriculture Committee and the European Committee. Whether their candidates would be elected or not was questionable from the outset.
Only three MPs voted for Stadler at the constituent meeting of the Agriculture Committee - exactly the same number as the AfD has members on the Agriculture Committee. 15 MPs voted against him in the secret ballot.
Stadler made the headlines several times in the last legislative period. Among other things, he was convicted of defamation against a political figure in 2020. At the time, it was about a photomontage. The original picture showed Ilse Aigner, President of the State Parliament, standing under blue balloons with pupils - and Stadler mounted the AfD logo on these balloons. Aigner therefore successfully filed a criminal complaint against the Passau MP.
Despite the AfD's attempt to secure committee chair positions in the Munich state parliament, their candidate Ralf Stadler was not elected as the Agriculture Committee head. The lack of support from other parliamentary groups resulted in Stadler receiving only 3 out of 18 votes.
Regardless of the failed election, the AfD still holds a few seats in the Agriculture Committee, contributing to the parliamentary debates and decisions about agricultural policies in the state.
