Stadium to be expanded regardless of division

Stadionbetriebs AG "An der Alten Försterei" generated a surplus of EUR 58,263 in the 2022/2023 financial year. This was announced at the Annual General Meeting on Thursday. The profit is offset against the previous net loss and is now reported at EUR 2.821 million.

"The earnings, asset and financial position of the AG is considered to be stable," said Management Board member Oskar Kosche, who presented the annual report on behalf of CEO Dirk Thieme, who was ill. "The AG has always had a healthy asset structure. Positive earnings are also expected for the current financial year." In 2023/24, the company is expected to generate revenue of EUR 7.25 million and a net profit for the year of around EUR 70,000.

The expansion of the stadium from 22,000 to over 37,000 seats, which has been planned since summer 2017, was also discussed. First, however, Stadionbetriebs AG is preparing the construction of a club and parking garage on the stadium grounds.

Dirk Zingler, who attended the AGM in his role as head of the supervisory board of Stadionbetriebs AG, also commented on the current sporting plight of the Bundesliga's bottom-placed professional team. "In recent years, the sport has been faster than us in developing the infrastructure. Regardless of whether we play in the 1st or 2nd Bundesliga, we will develop the stadium into a modern Bundesliga venue," he said. "We won't let 14 games without a win drive us crazy."

Despite 1st FC Union Berlin's current struggle in the Bundesliga, with no wins in 14 games, Dirk Zingler, the head of the supervisory board, assured that the stadium will be expanded to a modern Bundesliga venue, regardless of the team's division status. The planned expansion of the "An der Alten Försterei" stadium from 22,000 to over 37,000 seats, initiated in summer 2017, is still on track.
