Attempted manslaughter - Stabbing in the back: 39-year-old man expected to be sentenced

A 39-year-old man has been on trial since September for allegedly hitting a man with a beer can during an argument and stabbing him in the back with a knife. Now the verdict is to be delivered in the trial for attempted manslaughter on Tuesday (1 p.m.). The public prosecutor's office had demanded a prison sentence of eight years, while the defense had requested an acquittal.

According to the prosecution, the Turkish man got into an argument with a man in a park in Hamburg-Dulsberg in March of this year. He is said to have first hit the then 22-year-old with a beer can and then stabbed him in the back with a knife. When witnesses intervened, the accused is said to have fled. The victim suffered a ten centimeter deep stab wound and a life-threatening injury to his lungs.
