St. Pauli scraps to victory against Rostock in northern duel
FC St. Pauli have beaten FC Hansa Rostock in a hard-fought match in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Hamburg side won 3:2 (3:1) in front of 27,100 spectators at the Ostseestadion. First, Rostock's Junior Brumado (9th minute) scored from the penalty spot to take the lead. However, Fabian Hürzeler's team remained calm and turned the game around within a few minutes in the first half. Manolis Saliakas (15') equalized with a spectacular long-range shot, Marcel Hartel (18') and Oladapo Afolayan (23') then also scored for the league leaders.
The visitors then had opportunities to score a fourth goal, but missed an early decision. In the closing stages, Hansa reduced the deficit to 2:3 with a penalty through Brumado (78'). Despite further top chances, Rostock were denied an equalizer and the Hamburg visitors held on to their lead.
St. Pauli now have a three-point lead over HSV one week before the Hamburg city derby. Rostock are 14th in the table after 14 games, but can still overtake Karlsruhe and Schalke.
