St. Pauli professional Treu rises to the challenge
With his first professional goal in the 2:1 win over Karlsruher SC, Philipp Treu sent out the decisive signal just over two weeks ago. The only 22-year-old full-back wants to develop into an important cornerstone at second-division soccer club FC St. Pauli. "I first had to get used to the complex St. Pauli soccer," said Treu at a media round table on Tuesday. After his goal against KSC, he was on the pitch for the entire match in both the DFB Cup against Schalke 04 (2:1 after extra time) and in the league match at SV Elversberg (2:0).
Treu moved to the Millerntor from SC Freiburg's second team for the new season. The fact that there is a lot of competition on the wing in coach Fabian Hürzeler's team did not bother the former U19 international. On the contrary: "I'm happy to take on such challenges. I'm a fighter and have always had a clear goal," said the defender, who only made brief appearances at the start of the season.
Treu has fond memories of his powerful shot that secured victory over KSC in stoppage time. "The fact that it flew in like that was extremely cool," he said.
Even more important to the versatile player, who is equally at home on the left or right flank, are more starting eleven appearances. Preferably again on Friday (18:30/Sky) in the leaders' top match against third-placed Hannover 96. "There will be a lot to come," Treu is certain in view of the Lower Saxony side's current high in form.
Treu's impressive performance in Bundesliga 2 continues, as he played the entire match against SV Elversberga after scoring the winner against Karlsruher SC. Determined to make an impact at FC St. Pauli, Treu is eager to secure more starting positions, potentially in the upcoming game against Hannover 96 in the leaders' top match.
