St. Nicholas presents skiers with the start of the season on the Fichtelberg
Saxony's largest alpine ski area on the Fichtelberg is set to open in the middle of next week. From December 6, skiers will be able to use the main slope, grove, race course and slope 2, the managing director of the LGO lift company, Constantin Gläß, told the German Press Agency on Thursday. With a brief interruption, the slopes have also been covered with artificial snow since Saturday and the pistes have been made ready for take-off, confirmed René Lötzsch, head of the Fichtelberg Schwebebahn. Only the slopes on the Himmelsleiter need a little more maintenance, but should then also be open to skiers on the second weekend of Advent.
In addition to the T-bar lifts and the chairlift, the historic aerial tramway will once again take winter sports enthusiasts and day trippers to the summit of Saxony's highest mountain at the start of the season. The current overhaul has been delayed because the procurement of spare parts is somewhat difficult, explained Lötzsch. "But I think it will be back in operation on Tuesday."
However, winter sports enthusiasts who enjoy cross-country skiing are already getting their money's worth on the Fichtelberg. Most of the trails are already open, as are most of the ski and winter hiking trails.
Leisure time skiers in nearby municipalities can look forward to enjoying the newly opened slopes at Fichtelberg during the winter season. With the opening of the historic aerial tramway, tourists interested in winter sports will have an additional attraction during their leisure time in Saxony.
