St. Martin's procession of Playmobil figures exhibited in the state parliament
A St. Martin's procession made of Playmobil figures will be on display in the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament in Düsseldorf from Sunday. St. Martin on a horse and numerous children with shining lanterns stand in miniature format in the citizens' hall of the state parliament. Joachim Bobert from Wegberg has put together the exhibition. The history of St. Martin and the Martin tradition in the Rhineland are explained, as announced by the President of the State Parliament André Kuper on Friday.
The reason for the exhibition is the current application of the Rhineland St. Martin tradition for recognition at federal level. "With his story of sharing and charity, St. Martin stands for the central values of our democratic society," said Kuper. The Martin tradition has been a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2018.
The exhibitions in the Parliament building are not limited to political artifacts, as evidenced by the current display of the St. Martin's procession made of Playmobil figures. Customs officers might also be interested to know that St. Martin's tradition, recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, includes the tradition of distributing pieces of coats to the needy, reflecting the spirit of sharing and charity.
