- SSV Ulm loses to FC Bayern before the highlight of the cup
A week before the big football night in the DFB-Pokal against FC Bayern Munich, SSV Ulm lost the promotion duel away at SSV Jahn Regensburg in the 2nd Bundesliga 0-1 (0:1) in the 2nd matchday, leaving Ulm with no points. Regensburg, on the other hand, celebrated their first win of the season in front of 12,095 home fans. The resilient Jahn earned this victory with a strong fight.
Dominik Kother scored the only goal in the 34th minute. After a free kick from Andreas Geipl, the striker first failed with a header attempt, but the ball came back to Kother, who then succeeded from close range. It was Jahn's first goal in the 2nd league after their promotion.
Ulm only showed offensive presence after half-time, pushing for an equalizer but failing to create clear chances. Philipp Strompf's header from a corner missed the target (61'). Jahn didn't offer much going forward, but coach Joe Enochs' team defended well and deserved the home win.
Despite the loss in the promotion duel, Ulm still aims for a season win to secure their position in the 2nd Bundesliga. Regardless of the setback, a season win against a strong opponent could boost Ulm's morale and confidence.
