In a new trailer for the sequel to the Korean hit series "Squid Game", lead actor Lee Jung-jae is seen in his role as game contestant Seong Gi-hun. Seong Gi-hun was one of 456 heavily indebted individuals who fought for 45.6 billion South Korean won in the first season of the Netflix series.

The 60-second trailer shows him in the iconic series outfit, a green tracksuit worn by all game participants. He even retains his contestant number from the first season: 456. Other contestants are also featured in the trailer, but their faces are not shown, only their numbers.

In early August, Netflix announced that the new season will be available on December 26 this year. The announcement video gave a first taste of the brutalities that await in the new season.

The South Korean production, which debuted in 2021, is considered the most successful Netflix series of all time. In the first season, contestants competed in seemingly harmless children's games. But the macabre competition left no room for second chances: those who didn't make it to the next round were immediately eliminated.

In his home country, "Squid Game" has resonated with the zeitgeist, particularly due to its open social critique. Issues such as growing inequality, discrimination against social minorities, and extreme performance pressure are all addressed in the series.

Netflix announced that the series will conclude with a third season in 2025.

Lee Jung-jae's return as Seong Gi-hun in "Squid Game 2" is highly anticipated, as viewers remember his iconic green tracksuit and contestant number 456 from the first season. The new season, set to premiere on Netflix on December 26, promises to continue the brutal and thought-provoking narrative of the successful South Korean series.
