Domestic safety measures. - Spranger acquires drone protection technology to secure EM.
In Berlin, the city's Senator for Interior and Sports, Iris Spranger from the SPD, has revealed the acquisition of drone defense technology ahead of the UEFA European Championship. Spranger talked about this during an interview on RBB-Inforadio on Friday. "Drones are now also being used for attacks," she mentioned.
Security experts categorized the current situation as an "abstract threat scenario" for the upcoming tournament, with Spranger explaining that "an abstract threat scenario is one where a threat is mentioned, but not clearly defined." Despite this, Spranger assured that appropriate security measures have been implemented for the sports event. "The police and fire department are prepped up," she added.
In the budget allocated for the European Championship, roughly 84 million Euros were set aside, out of which approximately 10 million Euros were spent on security. According to SPD politician Spranger, much of the investments will benefit Berlin in the long run. She referenced the renovations at the Olympiastadion and Olympiapark, as well as supplies for the police and fire department. The expected influx of visitors will also provide income for the city. Spranger predicts around 2.5 million guests during the European Championship.
