Germany's premier handball league - Sports director Alonso departs from Erlangen's handball club.
The Handball Bundesliga club HC Erlangen ends its partnership with Raul Alonso, their Sports Director. The organization made the announcement on Saturday, stating that Alonso's contract will not be renewed by either side. They don't plan to hire a replacement. Instead, they'll assign his tasks to different team members, as they've successfully done before.
Raul Alonso, a 45-year-old Spaniard, joined HC Erlangen at the beginning of the 2021/22 season. He partially took over the team's coaching duties. For the 2023/24 season, he handed over the head coaching role to Hartmut Mayerhoffer, who was later replaced by Johannes Sellin in April. As the current season came to a close, Erlangen finished in 16th place.
