- Speed control week in Hesse begins

The police in Hessen started the so-called "Speed Control Week" on Monday. For drivers, this means enhanced traffic controls until Sunday, as announced by a spokesperson for the Hessian Ministry of the Interior. All Hessian police headquarters are participating in this Europe-wide action, which focuses on speed monitoring. However, the design and scope of participation lie with the headquarters themselves.

The aim of the action, according to the police, is to reduce the number of victims in traffic accidents. Excessive speed is the main cause of accidents involving personal injury. Last year, the Hessian police recorded 3,173 traffic accidents with personal injury where the cause was excessive speed, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

On this emphasized "Speed Control Week," authorities will continue their enhanced traffic checks until the end of the week on Sunday. Despite the focus on speed monitoring during this Europe-wide action, each Hessian police headquarters sets their own level of participation.
