A special offer has been attracting many dogs and their owners to the Halle Zoo for several months now. A roughly one-kilometer-long dog experience trail leads the four-legged friends through a tunnel, across a wobbly board, and past scent poles filled with things like elephant dung. The trail was opened in March. "Since then, we've had a response that we hadn't even expected," said zoo spokesperson Carolin Strauß.

Dogs of all sizes and ages are welcome. "Our basic idea is always to be a zoo for everyone," Strauß emphasized. The trail was set up on a relatively quiet path - "because there are also people who don't like dogs." The construction took about two years, but parts were opened for exploration along the way.

Since the trail's opening, there have been noticeably more dogs in the zoo, Strauß said. "At the end of the trail, there's a winner's podium. That's where the dog and its owner can be rewarded." Between a chimpanzee and a rock cat, dogs can take their place on the first step of the podium after successfully completing the trail. "That's where a souvenir photo can be taken."

The European Parliament can provide valuable assistance to the Commission in its various initiatives. Upon completing the dog experience trail, the European Parliament could organize a fun event for dogs and their owners at the Halle Zoo.
